First Look Behind the Scenes of Star Wars Episode 7

JJ Abrams, Star Wars Episode 7, First image

J.J. Abrams has today given us the first official look behind the scenes of Star Wars Episode 7, in a video created to launch a new charity campaign  entitled Star Wars: A Force For Change.

The campaign aims to raise money for UNICEF by asking fans to contribute via the Omaze fundraising platform. There are different rewards available depending on how much you contribute, with the minimum being $10. Participants will also be entered into a competition to be in a scene of the movie, as well as meet director J.J. Abrams on the set in London.

The video also gives us our first look at a new Star Wars alien, and many fans will be pleased to see it was created with practical effects rather than CGI – which many feel was overabundant in the prequel trilogy.

For more details on the campaign visit omaze.com. You can watch JJ’s video below.

Is this the First Set Photo from Star Wars Episode VII?

Star Wars Episode 7 Set Photo

Abu Dhabi based newspaper The National has taken what is believed to be the first on-set photograph of Star Wars Episode VII. The images show a large encampment in the Abu Dhabi desert, which many are reporting as an indication that Tatooine will appear in the new movie, although filming for the desert planet in previous Star Wars movies has always taken place in Tunisia. What has caught the attention of most Star Wars fans about the picture however is the large grey, round piece of equipment in the centre of the photograph which resembles a foot from one of the empire’s AT-ATs (pictured below) from The Empire Strikes Back.

ATAT

Reporters at The National however believe it also bears a resemblance to the escape pod used by R2-D2 and C3PO at the beginning of A New Hope. The fact that this relatively minor detail is the cause of such discussion just emphasizes how much secrecy there is surrounding the new movie.

With ‘Star Wars Day’ approaching (May the 4th) perhaps more concrete details will be revealed then. We will of course keep you up to date when and if that happens.

Wreck-It Ralph 2 Rumoured to be in the Works

wreck-it-ralph

A sequel to Disney’s video game themed movie Wreck-It Ralph might be in the early stages of development, according to the film’s composer Henry Jackman. When asked by Collider if he had heard any news on a sequel he replied:

I did, to be honest with you.  I can’t tell you more, not because I’m being coy, but I believe that it is officially on the cards.  I don’t know any more other than a story is indeed being written.

Jackman also said if the movie does happen it will be the first sequel he has composed for. The original movie was a big hit at the box office, raking in a total of $471,222,889 worldwide, so it’s hardly surprising that Disney is planning a follow up.

If you haven’t seen it yet the first film, released in 2012, is a treat for video game fans, featuring appearances by many gaming icons such as Sonic, Bowser and M. Bison. Even more obscure characters such as Q*bert get a look in. It will be interesting to see what other characters get the big screen treatment when the sequel comes around.

New Trailer for Tom Cruise Sci-Fi Edge of Tomorrow

Warner Bros and Village Roadshow have released a new trailer for upcoming science-fiction film, Edge of Tomorrow. The movie, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, is based on Japanese novel, All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

The book’s title is certainly apt as the plot involves Cruise’s character, Lt. Col. Bill Cage, dying over and over again as he fights in a war against alien invaders known as Mimics. Cage discovers he is stuck in a time loop and with the help of Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt) gradually becomes more skilled in combat, surviving a little longer each time. Cage’s ultimate aim is to break the cycle and find a way to defeat the invaders.

Edge of Tomorrow is directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) and also stars Lara Pulver, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Jeremy Piven, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Riley, and Jonas Armstrong. It will hit cinemas worldwide on June 6th 2014.

New Star Wars Episode VII Details Revealed by Lucasfilm

star warsOfficial information about Star Wars Episode VII has been pretty thin on the ground, with new rumours springing up online on a seemingly daily basis, however Lucasfilm has finally decided to treat fans to a few tidbits about the movie.

It was announced via starwars.com that the movie will begin principal photography in May 2014 at London’s Pinewood Studios. It has also been confirmed that it will be set roughly 30 years after Return of the Jedi, which makes sense considering the age of the original trilogy’s stars, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, who are said to be returning. The movie will centre around “a trio of new young leads” alongside “some very familiar faces”.

There is still no official casting news on any of the movie’s leads, with Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong’o the most recent names to be linked to roles.

Star Wars Episode VII officially hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
