Play as Maxim Kischine
After completing the game once start a new game with MAXIM as a name.
After completing the game once start a new game with NO MAGIC as a name.
After completing the game once start a new game with HARDGAME as a name.
Unlock Boss Rush Mode
Boss Rush mode is unlocked upon completing the game, there are three levels that can be unlocked (Easy, Normal and Hard) by playing in succession.
Play as Classic Simon Belmont
After unlocking Boss Rush Mode press ↑, ↑, ↓, ↓, ←, →, ←, →. B, A, SELECT when the Konami logo appears. This allows you to play as the NES version of Simon Belmont in Boss Rush Mode.
Unlock Karaoke Mode
In the sound room highlight the ‘exit’ option then hold down SELECT + START + R + L + UP (all at once). Once you have unlocked karaoke mode you can alter the pitch of the song by pressing UP or DOWN, change the tempo by by pressing LEFT or RIGHT, and change the CD to green, yellow, or just lyrics with L or R.
Find Hidden CDs
There are special CDs hidden in every level that unlock music you can listen to in the sound room, here are their locations:
Palm Tree Paradise: In the last cave before the portal switch. Walk through the wall from the bottom wooden platform.
Mystic Lake: The CD is at the beginning of the level but can only be collected after activating the portal switch. When you come back bash through the block to the left of the first door.
Wildflower Fields: Float through the gap at the beginning, then climb left into the clouds. Climb as high as you can, then go left when you reach the top.
The Curious Factory (Ruby Passage): From the portal switch room take the exit to the right. Go left at the bottom jewel piece and you will be squashed. Go left and fall into the next area. Finally, go right to get the CD.
The Toxic Landfill (Ruby Passage): There is a hidden path below the third jewel piece. Find it and smash the second television on the floor to uncover the CD.
40 Below Fridge (Ruby Passage): Activate the portal switch and head back to the portal’s location. Now go right and climb the ladder, crawl through the gap at the top then drop down. Smash open the block to find the CD.
Pinball Zone (Ruby Passage): Go through the third room containing the black balls and stand on the slope. Press down on the D-Pad to roll down to the right. Climb to the top left to find the CD.
Unlock Super Hard Mode
Complete the game on Hard difficulty. When you start a new game ‘Super Hard’ difficulty will be available.
Access Password Screen
At the Machine Selection screen in Grand Prix Mode, press L, R, Start, R, L, Select.
There are several ways of unlocking the Jet Vermillion Car. They are as follows:
- Unlock all other cars in the game and complete Championship mode 255 times (!).
- OR Complete every series on Master Class with all other racers.
- OR Create a new save file at the Name Entry screen, call it ‘T&T’ and start a game using that name. Select Grand Prix mode and at the Machine Selection screen enter the password screen code. Finally enter the password ‘V-J4+6V9A-30’.
Win the Pawn, Knight and Bishop tracks on standard difficulty.
Win any series on expert difficulty.
Win the Queen series on expert difficulty.
Win the Pawn, Knight and Bishop tracks on expert difficulty.
Win the Pawn, Knight, Bishop and Queen tracks on Master difficulty.
Unlock Master Difficulty Setting
Win the Pawn, Knight, or Bishop series on expert difficulty in Grand Prix mode to unlock the master difficulty setting for each series.
View Demo Mode
Press select at the title screen to watch a CPU demonstration.
To reset the game without using the 0n/off button press select + start + A + B at the same time.
Delete Saved Games
If you need to clear any of your saved data simply hold L + R as you turn the game on. Select ‘Yes’ when prompted.
Samus will appear in various states of undress on the game completion screen depending on how quickly you complete the game and how many items you collect.
Samus Without Her Helmet: Complete the game with a time between two and three hours to see Samus without her helmet.
Samus Without Her Suit: Complete the game in under six-and-a-half hours with 100% item collection to see Samus without her suit, standing, wearing only a bathing costume. Alternatively finish the game in under two hours, with 50% of items, and Samus will be leaning without her suit.
Near the beginning of the game, when the X are blocking the fans to condition the environment to their needs, look very closely at the top left corner before destroying the X Parasites and you can see a Gamecube!
Unlock Advance Campaign
First buy the ‘Advance Campaign’ under Battle Maps which becomes available after completing the Campaign Mode. After you have bought it start a new Campaign while holding down the Select button. The words ‘Advance Campaign’ should appear in the upper left hand corner. This mode will make enemy AI tougher and some units stronger. Your opponent will also have more units while you will have less, but you will earn more cash for progressing.
Special Intel Tutorial
When you have finished the Field Training missions you will unlock a short tutorial called ‘Special Intel’ which gives you extra gameplay tips. It can be found at any time by going back into Field Training.
Unlock new COs
Olaf: Beat Campaign Mode.
Grit: Beat Campaign Mode and use Max in Mission 4. Buy from Hachi (on the Battle Maps section) for 50 coins.
Eagle: Beat Campaign Mode and use Sami for missions 15, 16, 17, 18 and then beat secret mission 22. Buy from Hachi for 50 coins.
Kanbei: Beat Campaign Mode. Buy from Hachi for 50 coins.
Drake: Beat Campaign Mode. Use Andy for missions 15, 16, 17 and 18. Buy from Hachi for 50 coins.
Sonja: Beat Campaign Mode. Beat Mission 9 in 8 days (or less), Mission 10 in 10 days, Mission 11 in 12 days, then beat secret missions 12, 13 and 14. Then you can buy Sonja from Hachi for 60 coins.
Sturm: Beat Campaign Mode and unlock all other COs. You can then buy Sturm from Haichi for 100 coins. Note: Sturm can only be used in Vs. mode.
Sonja’s Secret Missions
Complete CO Kanbei’s missions in the following amount of turns to unlock Sonja’s secret missions:
Kanbei Arrives!: 8 turns or less
Mighty Kanbei!: 10 turns or less
Kanbei’s Error?: 12 turns or less
If you successfully complete the missions within these time limits you will continue into a hidden path in the story line.
Nintendo of Europe has announced that Game Boy Advance classic Advance Wars will be released on the Wii U Virtual Console on 3rd April. This will come as a pleasant surprise to Wii U owners as the strategy title was not included in the original line-up of games that Nintendo announced back in February. That means we still have Metroid Fusion, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island to look forward to on the service later in the month.
