Atari E.T. Cartridges Unearthed in New Mexico

Atari E.T., New Mexico

A film crew has uncovered unwanted copies of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 in a New Mexico landfill. The excavation in Alamogordo is being filmed for a documentary going by the working title “Atari: Game Over” and the evidence unearthed so far proves one of gaming’s longest standing legends – that thousands of copies of the game were buried after it became an almighty flop and left Atari in financial ruin.

Nothing close to the reported thousands of buried copies have been found yet but there is a lot of work still to be done and the findings so far prove that there is truth to the legend.

It also seems that E.T. isn’t the only thing that was dumped there, copies of Centipede, Space Invaders and Asteroids have also been discovered.

You will be able to see the full extent of the findings when the documentary hits Xbox One and Xbox 360 later this year.
