Sonic Blasting Back To TV
Sega of America have announced a new Sonic the Hedgehog series with the working title of Sonic Boom. It will be the first Sonic animation since Sonic X which ended production in 2006. The new show, which will be co-produced by Sega of America and Genao Prods, will be fully CG – a first for a Sonic animation and will air in Fall 2014 on Cartoon Network in the US. The initial run will consist of 52 eleven minute episodes. The official description of the series states
Sonic Boom is a character-driven comedy that leaves a trail of robot wreckage in its smoldering wake. The series centers on Sonic, his best friend and sidekick, Tails, their never-ending search for adventure, and their battles with Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Rounding out the ensemble are fan favorites Knuckles and Amy Rose, plus a rogue’s gallery of enemies—some familiar to Sonic fans and some brand-new.
The creative talent behind the show includes Evan Baily (formerly EVP of Production and Creative Affairs for Classic Media), Bill Freiberger (The Simpsons, Drawn Together) and Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team, who will oversee the show to ensure it stays true to the Sonic Universe.
