Guess who's back?

Guess who’s back?

During today’s Pokemon Direct Nintendo revealed a rather substantial amount of new information about the latest entries in the Pokemon series. Perhaps most exciting to long-term fans of the series is the revelation that you will be able to choose one of the original starters from Pokemon Red & Blue, Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle, to take with you from the outset in addition to one of the new starters, Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie. Not only that but the classic monsters will each be able to take a new form during battle with the help of a new item, the “Mega Stone”, which causes a Mega Evolution, resulting in the mega powerful Mega Blastoise, Mega Charizard or Mega Venusaur. Mega. You can view footage of these new evolutions for yourself below.

Also announced today was Pokemon Bank, a cloud-based service which will allow players to store their Pokemon online and download again at a later date for use in future games. You will be able to store up to 3,000 Pokemon this way, the only downside being a small annual charge for using the service however there will be a free trial period when the service first goes live. In conjunction with the Pokemon Bank players will be able to use a new app, the Poke Transporter, to transfer Pokemon from Black & White over to X & Y.

In one last piece of news Nintendo announced that they will be releasing two special Pokemon X & Y 3DS XL systems, they will be available in Blue and Red from September 27 in Europe and North America, that’s two weeks before the actual games release however, so they will unfortunately not come as a bundle.
